PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION
Start with your WHY and your VISION
Pursue excellence as you move forward to allow you to focus on the journey
Celebrate growth instead of waiting for “accomplishments”
Practice patience as you visualize “what will be” – doing so will move you along in the pursuit of progress.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. –Frederick Douglass
There are no constraints on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit, no barriers to our progress except those we ourselves erect. –Ronald Reagan
Progress lies not in enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be. –Khalil Gibran
BABY STEPS OF LIFE
Life is made up of baby steps, and times when we fall – the question is, how often are you willing to get back up and not be discouraged or lose sight of your focus?
- Pick a goal
- Write out why that goal matters to you
- Create a list of baby steps to get to that goal
Example:
Goal – Own a vineyard
Why – I want to create a wine-to-water charity and I love viniculture
Baby Steps – Create financial independence for family, pay for a house in cash, grow personal business and business reach consistently by 20% or more yearly, save aggressively, invest wisely, shop at ALDI grocery store, minimize careless shopping
Example:
Goal – Inspire millions to love more
Why – I believe it to be the calling God put on my heart
Baby Steps – Love myself well daily, love my family well daily, learn daily, grow daily, challenge and push myself daily, do something that scares me daily, learn more about love daily, show up in my business daily, continue to creatively market my message to reach more people, apply to and try for opportunities to reach more people, collaborate, be a good neighbor, be kind to strangers and go out of my way for others, slow down and focus less on productivity
KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT BEHIND
If you are moving forward, then it is impossible to be behind.
We often obsess about perfection or about how far we are on our journey because we feel behind or like we aren’t good enough or doing enough – when you shift the focus to a focus and celebration of “progress” instead of “completion” then freedom happens.
You are not behind and you have nothing to “prove.” The only thing you have is an obligation to live your life well and to savor the gift of breath that you have been given, so lean in and celebrate just that.
PROGRESS PARTY
Make a list of the three most important areas of your life.
Now take five minutes and think about all the growth and progress you have made in those areas over the last six months.
Next, write down three areas for each category in which you would like to see more progress and growth. (Remember, where you focus is where your life will follow – plan for success and growth by planning your focus and your attention).
QUESTION FOR DISCUSSION:
Where do you want to see the most progress in your life right now? Share that area and then share your first three focus baby-steps to grow in that area.
